If you’re in the business of marketing online, a major portion of your income will come from your ability to deliver quality content and products to your market. (...)

If you’re in the business of marketing online, a major portion of your income will come from your ability to deliver quality content and products to your market.

Now, besides creating these yourself, one of the quickest and cheapest way to acquire all the content and products you need is in the public domain.

Whatever your requirements, you can find almost anything in the public domain. Examples include texts, audio, images, stock video, music and software…which you can flexibly use in whichever ways you want!

A word of warning though…

While a large portion of this material is "fair use", not all the works entered into the public domain database are clear of copyright restrictions.

A true public domain work is information open to the public for use, including copying, distributing and modification at no cost. Currently works published 75 years ago are considered to be public domain, while those published from 1924-1963 may be public domain - IF the copyright was not renewed.

I would highly recommend reading the public domain FAQ pages at these websites first before you use any material:

http://www.gutenberg.org
http://www.pdimages.com
http://www.pdmusic.org
http://digital.library.upenn.edu/books

However - if you desire an easier and quicker method of monetizing the public domain, you will be amazed at what you can do at ==> http://www.miniebook.com/files.htm

Assuming you now have all the public domain content you want, the million dollar question is:

"How do I truly monetize them to create long-term profit streams?"

The answer is in these 7 simple methods:

Method #1: Kick Start An Information Empire

How many mini sites in a week can you set up to sell info-products that has already been created for you? It's a no-brainer.

Public domain provides the perfect opportunity for creating an empire of super profitable mini sites that can each make money on autopilot for you. It's really a numbers game…

If one mini site generates a conservative $300 per month, ten of these would mean a nice income of $3,000 every month! What if you just concentrate on getting the formula down to a science and duplicate these mini sales machines every day? Think about it.

Apply this concept to auction listings and you can also create a fortune with public domain and eBay.

Method #2: Churn Out Complete Niche Websites

Split up public domain material and use them as pages of targeted niche content for your website. It's a simple idea but hardly anyone exploit it.

All you do is select relevant public domain books and break them down into instant content. With a little SEO skills, planning and targeted keyword-based public domain content, you can spit out new websites that ranks highly in the search engines overnight.

This is a better solution and enhancement to automated site creation tools, which being essentially carbon copies of each other, have high risks of being banned.

While it takes work, this is one quick way to develop new niche sites on demand. You can then profit from them using Google Adsense, affiliate programs and advertising revenues. This method can also be applied to blogs.

Method #3: Get Traffic With Viral Lead Generators

A proven way to generate free and highly-targeted traffic is to create lead generating mini ebooks and make them viral. This is a strategy I reveal in detail in “Mini eBook Secrets” at ==> http://www.miniebook.com.

Basically public domain material can be fully or partially used as content for your mini ebooks, which you simply create and give away to bring back traffic to your site. Adding a viral marketing effect to your mini ebooks will explode your traffic for life - without any cost to you.

Not many people are using public domain in this way and it'll be highly profitable for you to do so.

Method #4: Follow-up For Maximum Profits

It's a proven fact that following up with your prospects through an autoresponder sequence or ecourse is bound to increase your sales. This is where you can use content from the public domain to great effect.

If you can cut and paste, you can create a quality ecourse with public domain works. It's as easy as it gets.

Method #5: Achieve Instant Recognition And Credibility

This one is good - split the public domain book's content into hundreds of articles with YOUR name and resource box on them.

Then simply submit these 'instant' articles and sit back. Your personal branding and name recognition will skyrocket beyond belief! You'll also receive credibility and expert status with your articles, provided they're good.

By the way, get this free report to populate your articles on thousands of sites and ezines:
==> http://www.instantmarketingsecrets.com/lifetime.htm

Method #6: Create Multiple Products At Lightning Speed

Have you thought about repackaging and creating different products out of public domain material? Just changing the format can vastly increase the perceive value and worth of the product.

You can take a public domain book and split it up into modules, create audio recordings or market it as a paid subscription newsletter for tons more profits than just selling it as a single ebook. Just changing the format can vastly increase the perceive value and worth of the product.

Another idea is to combine a few books with a common topic as a themed package. You can then sell resale rights to it and generate instant backend cash. Or create a high-ticket item by combining manuals, audio and dvds together.

The possibilities are huge!

Method #7: Use Them As Special Bonuses

Public domain material make excellent bonuses for your main product when you're looking for increased value. Other uses of bonuses include:

As extra incentives for your affiliate promotions; as incentives for publishing articles; or even for a simple purpose like clicking to a site. You get the idea

Apply these 7 methods and your traffic, sales and income will surely surge.

What is a domain name? A domain name is the location of your website on the Internet. Your domain name will be what you become known by online so it's important to get it right. (...)

What is a domain name? A domain name is the location of your website on the Internet. Your domain name will be what you become known by online so it's important to get it right.

Each website on the Internet is labelled with something called an IP address which is the actual address of the website online. A typical IP address looks like this: 159.134.27.64. Remembering a string of numbers like that is difficult so a domain name translates all those numbers into something like www.amazon.com. This is far easier to remember.

#1 Dot what?

Each domain has what's called an extension. The most well known of these extensions is .com. This, however, is not the only type of domain extension available. There is also:

.net

If you can't find your preferred .com domain name you could always choose the same domain with a .net extension. It might not have the same ring as a .com but is still as just useful as a .com.

.org

These domain extensions were orginally designed for educational and more formal websites. Anybody can register a .org however so you have more options for domain selection.

.info

A more recent introduction to the domain name game are .info domains. Many of the valuable .info domains were bought up overnight but there's still a huge range of good .info domains available. With a little creativity you could really make a .info work for you e.g. www.moviereview.info.

Bear in mind that most web surfers tend to remember .com more easily than anything else.

#2 Branding vs Business Name

There is an age old debate on the whether or not you should establish a brand name online or use a domain that more actually reflects your real business. Let's look at Amazon as an example. Amazon sells books online. Most people setting up a business would have chosen say www.booksonline.com instead of www.amazon.com. Amazon has since established itself as a brand name of global recognition - proving the value of building a brand name.

You'll need to choose between the two. Brand name or your own business name. Consider how your domain sounds, how it might look on a business card and how well it relates to your business.

There's no one right answer to this question. You need to choose what makes most sense for you, your website and your business in general.

#3 Hyphenated or not

This is another area of debate. Should your domain be one single word or should the words be separated by hyphens? There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. Single word domain names can be easier to explain, use on header paper and lend themselves to brand names very well.

Single word domains are in very, very short supply.

Hyphenated domains names can be slighltly more difficult to explain, may not look as well on headed paper and possibly harder to establish as a brand name. There's no shortage of multiple word domains.

The single biggest advantage a hyphenated domain has is that searche engines can "read" the domain more easily. For example in a domain like www.foreignholidaysonline.com the search engine can only read the first word "foreign" and that's it. It can't tell anything else about the website domain name.

If you hyphenated that to www.foreign-holidays-online.com the search engine can read "foreign", "holidays" and "online" as separate words and therefore knows that this website is about foreign holidays.

A well chosen hyphenated domain name can be just as effective as a single word domain name.

#4 Your Domain Registrar

These are the people you pay to register the domain for you. There are dozens if not hundreds of these companies out there so which one do you choose? This takes some research but things worth checking are:

    * Do you retain sole ownership of the domain or do the registrar keep some level of control over it?

    * Search Google for any horror stories relating to the registrar

    * Does the registrar allow you to transfer the domain to another registrar?

    * Is there an online control panel for domain administration?

    * How easy is it to change the domain Name Servers?

Shop around for domain registrars. What you really want to find is a previously satisfied customer to ask questions before you buy.

#5 Cheap Domain Names

You can save a lot of money on the domain names you purchase. A typical .com domain costs about $15 to register from most registrars. However you can get the same domain for as little as $7.95 from other, very reliable, companies.

Oddly enough some of the cheaper domain registrars are more reliable, have fewer horror stories and offer equally good customer service as their more expensive competitors.

Are there any disadvantages in using a discount domain registrar? Will it affect your website in any way? The answer to both is a definite No.

by Emma Kalson

With such a huge growth in the number of websites and the resulting difficulty in finding an available domain name, it is tempting to grab the first one that sounds like it might do the trick. However, a small amount of homework will pay big dividends – follow the ten steps below to obtain the optimal domain:

1. AVAILABILITY
If it’s not available you can’t have it – simple!

2. COPYRIGHT
Ensure that you do not breach copyright or infringe trademarks with your choice of domain.

3. EXTENSIONS
It’s widely acknowledged that the best TLD (top level domain) is .com. However, in the UK, web users are more than used to .co.uk so this is equally acceptable for UK websites. If .com isn’t available and you use .net instead (for example), check that .com isn’t either a competitor or that the .com site content is acceptable! Always try to get the .com, your country TLD or .net in that order. Web users are still not used to .biz or .info.

4. BE GREEDY!
If more than one TLD variant is available, buy as many as you can afford and set them all to point to your website. This is a form of brand protection and prevents unscrupulous competitors trying to cash in on your hard-earned web traffic.

5. BE MEMORABLE
Make sure that potential web users will remember your domain name and that they can spell it properly.

6. BE PRONOUNCABLE
Try telling people your web address over the phone – can they understand what you tell them? Or do they give up and try someone else’s website.

7. BE DESCRIPTIVE
If you are a new business, very few people will remember or search for your domain name if it is your company name. Try choosing a domain name that is descriptive of your products instead e.g. cheap<>.com. Try testing it with a hyphen as well as using just one word.

8. OFFLINE MARKETING
Use your domain name in your offline marketing literature and ensure that it is as visible as possible. However, if your domain name consists of more than one word, that isn’t hyphenated, try using capital letters e.g. which is easier to read – littlefishwebdesign.com or LittleFishWebDesign.com? Domain names are not case sensitive so your clients will find your site whichever version they use.

9. BUY YOUR DOMAIN FOR LONGER
Search engines are now looking at less obvious information such as how long you have bought your domain name for. Domain names owned for less than two years are though to be penalised, so buy your domain for as long as possible.

10. OWN YOUR DOMAIN NAME
If you use a web designer or third party for your domain names, ensure they are registered in your name and that you have a signed agreement with the company that they will release all the details (including password) to you, quibble free, if you choose to move to another design or hosting company.

About the Author

Emma Kalson is the owner of www.littlefishwebdesign.com and has been designing websites for about 10 years. She doesn’t believe in unnecessary bells and whistles on websites and wants to help remove some of the myths surrounding website design and search engine activity.

Domain Name 10 Commandments - BEFORE you choose or buy a domain name; understand the ten issues involved in choosing the right domain name the first time. (...)

Domain Name 10 Commandments - BEFORE you choose or buy a domain name; understand the ten issues involved in choosing the right domain name the first time. First, the list that we work from when conducting a custom Domain Name Analysis (DNA). Then the explanations of each commandment follow.

TEN COMMANDMENTS OF INTERNET DOMAIN NAME VALUE
1 - The name shall have Development Value
2 - The name shall have .Dot value
3 - The name shall have Brand Recognition
4 - The name shall be Search Engine Friendly
5 - The name shall be Linguistically Viable
6 - The name shall have Traffic or Revenue
7 - The name shall have Industry Strength
8 - The name shall have Sales Value History
9 - The name shall have Intrinsic Value
10 - The name shall have Market Potential

1 - Development Value
A names base line value is based on the ability to use it. One of the primary issues we address in our DNA (Domain Name Analysis) is - Can this name be built into an instantly recognizable site whose name becomes synonymous with its content?
2 - .Dot Value
Dot.com's are, and probably always will be, more valuable than any other .dot designation. Even Dot.net's, and Dot.org's are by their very nature worth less on the open market. There are many reasons for this. One reason involves search engine rankings. Other issues pertain to the consumers hard to break habits. Note that .com is the internationally recognized extension for serious Internet business sites.
3 - Brand Recognition
Simple, familiar words work better than complicated, hard-to-spell ones. Short, catchy names in attractive industry segments are also very valuable. Kleenex is an example of brand recognition in the brick and mortar world. The brand name Kleenex was originally associated with facial tissue made BY KLEENEX ONLY. Because of powerful brand recognition however the name Kleenex came to literally equal ANY brand of facial tissue. "Will you hand me a Kleenex please". This is one of the areas where we rely heavily on our point of contact research and specialists experience with domain names. It is an area we do not analyze via computer algorithm. Rarely will any name receive an excellent valuation under this commandment unless it meets the above criteria AND carries the .Dot com extension.
For explanations of the rest of the Commandments 4 - 10, visit http://extraordinaryartist.com/domain-name.htm It's FREE and will ensure you don't make a mistake right up front when trying to establish a viable Internet Business.

The toll free number 1-800-Get-Rich belongs to the Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. Perfect vanity number for a casino, right? Well apparently not. (...)

The toll free number 1-800-Get-Rich belongs to the Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. Perfect vanity number for a casino, right? Well apparently not. Their website shows the actual numbers, 1-800-438-7424 for the marketing department of Resorts Atlantic City. Those NUMBERS are nowhere near as memorable as is the mnemonic device of letters representing those numbers on the telephone keypad. It makes you wonder, did the casino have bad luck (no pun intended) or receive bad publicity for their 800-Get-Rich phone number?

Doing a Google search for 1-800-GET-RICH returns several spoof articles using the toll free number to make light of get rich quick schemes. Seems as well suited to a casino as to satire, since gambling represents the ultimate get rich quick scheme.

But on the web there's a another element to toll free numbers you must consider. 800 numbers are used as domain names which seem to stick in our memory as a web address just as well as a phone number. Resorts Atlantic City Hotel Casino should buy the domain name www.1800getrich.com and assign that marketing department toll free 800 vanity number to the Casino.

The domain name is for sale as of this writing if you visit that web address. You can be certain that the current domain owner knows that the toll free vanity telephone number is owned by Resorts International Hotels www.resortsac.com which matches the domain www.1800getrich.com. It has to be enticing to think a large corporation may want his domain.

The casino owns the toll free number but isn't using the mnemonic for it. Makes you wonder about the history of the domain name, since WHOIS records show it was reserved only this past May of 2004, AND the history of the vanity number since it is going unused, at least on the web site. Hmmmm…

There are vanity phone number resellers online that actually specialize in providing 800 numbers with matching domain name for those seeking the consistent branding for their business. Clearly this is simply a marketing ploy by savvy 800 number vendors, as those domains may be full of hyphens and may cost more than they should due to the perception of value-added.

An interesting aspect to toll free numbers as domain names is that of 1-800 copyright and trademarks. Take for example, the well known flower retailer 1-800-FLOWERS.com where they use both the domain name and the toll free number. Both are copy- righted and trademarked names and essential to the business.

Legal precedent allows trademark owners to confiscate domains from "cybersquatters" who buy domain names containing trade- marked or copyrighted words and phrases hoping to sell that domain back to the trademark holder. But it is less clear an issue when it comes to descriptive toll free and vanity phone numbers. How about 1-800-PINDROP.com - which you would think would be registered to Sprint Communications? Curiously, as of October of 2004, this domain was available. What do they use? www.pindrop.com (without the 800) goes to Sprint.com.

It appears there are wide inconsistencies in using toll free 800 phone numbers as domain names but they can be memorable, which is one measure of a good domain name. They also aren't limiting as to word length. I've always felt it's a bit odd to type in 1800keywordphrase.com as a domain name, but only because there is no hyphen in it. 1800 looks like eighteen hundred and is just as strange as typing 247 for domains as a suggestion they are always open, more often seen as 24/7, but domain names can't have that slash mark in them.

As a matter of fact, I've always disliked numbers of any kind in domain names - especially those using numbers in place of the words "to" (up2me.com)& "for" (good4you.com) But, as owner of http://website101.com I'm at odds with the dislike for numbers in domain names. Still, it works better than 1800website.com or 1-800-website.com, both owned by Verio Web Hosting and both purchased in August of 1996, but neither have web sites configured at those addresses. They must not have been a worthwhile domains, yet they keep them.

If it offers you another option for a memorable web address, 800 number domains may be worth considering.

What is the best field name to choose?

This is good question. Let's say I am starting a new business venture. I have decided on my company name and it is registered with the relevant authorities.

My company is called Joe's Trading Ltd and I sell cheap widgets. I now need to get my field name. So what do I choose?

Firstly let's move with the name itself.

My company is called Joe's Trading Ltd so I guess I should register 'joestradingltd.com' or 'joestrading.com' or 'joestrading.co.uk', right?

Well no, not really…

When I register a field name I need to consider a few important factors.

Firstly, what is the purpose of the domain? Is it's purpose corporate branding or is it to intend traffic to my website?

Well if my company is 'IMB' or 'MacDonalds', then I guess that branding is all important but 'Joes Trading Ltd' wants to sell blue widgets online and lots of them. My main priority is to generate website traffic and the more the better.

I am commerce widgets. This is my target market and my unique commerce position is that they are cheap.

So what has this got to do with my field name?

Everything!

The field name is a field bourgeois when it comes to senior on see engines. And see engines provide 90% of web place traffic.

In recent studies, it has been discovered that the field name itself is a senior bourgeois and counts for 30% of the total factors that the see deems important when it ranks websites in its index.

Really, it is THAT important!

So what makes a higher senior field name?

Well, firstly short is best. The shorter the field the higher the ranking.

Secondly, the field must include the keyword for which you wish to rank high.

In this case Joes Trading Ltd sells Widgets so the field should contain widgets. The widgets are cheap so the field could be 'cheapwidgets.com'. This field is feat get higher senior in the see engines for the see term 'widgets or 'cheap widgets' than 'joestrading.com' could ever hope to attain

Higher senior means more traffic which in turn means more sales & profits.

So when it comes to purchasing your field make see engine senior your number one priority.
